About

HomeRepro is a blog about Home Assistant errors that show up after installing or updating it with Docker, and how to fix them.

Every post starts from a real problem that people have reported on recent Home Assistant releases: a container that won’t start after an update, a reverse proxy that returns 400 Bad Request, an automation that never fires, or a database that keeps growing. I rebuild the problem in a small Docker setup on my own machine, run it until the same error appears, and then write down what caused it and what fixed it.

How each post is made

  • Reproduced locally. The configuration, error messages, and logs in a post come from a setup I actually ran. I don’t paste errors from memory or make up output.
  • Version-pinned. Each post lists the exact Home Assistant release and container images I tested with. Home Assistant ships a new release every month, so if you’re on a different version, the cause or the fix may be different.
  • Checked against official sources. Explanations are based on official documentation, release notes, and issue trackers. Each post links them in the References section so you can verify the details yourself.
  • Written for the fix, not the theory. Posts go straight from the symptom to the cause and the fix, including the mistakes I ran into along the way.

Topics

Category What it covers

Networking & Remote Access Reverse proxies (Nginx, Caddy, Traefik), trusted proxies, SSL, connection errors
Automations & Templates Automations that don’t run, triggers and conditions, template sensors, scripts

Posts cover problems that can be reproduced without specific hardware. Device-specific issues (Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, or a particular brand’s devices) are out of scope.

Corrections

Home Assistant changes fast, and a fix that worked on one release can break on the next. If something in a post is wrong or out of date, please tell me through the Contact page. I’ll re-run the example and update the post.
